Bag Packing

A club in West London raised money by bag packing at a local supermarket.

Over two Saturdays the club raised approximately 1200 pounds. Your club probably has someone working at a local supermarket. Use them as a point of contact.

You will need plenty of buckets and plenty of players.

Try to get enough volunteers to have two players per till and one parent per two tills. Your players manning the tills should be Under 11 upwards. Ensure they are wearing your club shirt, so they are promoting your club whilst working.

You would need to work from 10am to 4pm or something similar to make it worthwhile for the shop. Take some younger players to hold buckets near the shop entrance and hand out leaflet at the store entrance for new players.

Offer the shop the chance to have their logo on the front of your shirts. This may take some organising but is worthwhile. We recommend that this is done in the lead up to Christmas, say three weeks before. Customers are in a good mood at this time of the year and will appreciate your help. Ensure that the players attending are polite and ask every customer if they would like help.

Do a good job and the shop will have you back. You will be speeding up the time people are processed through the checkouts and releasing staff for other duties. Do and good job and it will make a good return for your club and the store.

Tips : Know your store and have enough people to man every till. Make your ure your players behave well (be selective on who you take). Younger children will only manage half a day, have shifts. Have a spreadsheet handy for people to leave details if interested in joining. Name, Address, Telephone, Son/Daughters name, age and email.
